Two Wilburton High School seniors, Courtney Battles, left and Mason Evans, were recognized as Students of the Month for November by members of the Wilburton Kiwanis Club. The students were special guests during the club’s Wednesday, November 13 meeting held in the Student Life Center on the campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. Courtney Battles is the daughter of Brian and Nancy Battles. She attends Wilburton High School where she is a member of FBLA, yearbook, mixed choir and women’s choir. She also participated in FFA for 2 years and served as class secretary during her freshman and sophomore years. Battles attends the First Baptist Church of Wilburton. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, going to basketball and baseball games and participating in school activities. She plans to attend Eastern Oklahoma State College and then transfer to a university to major in graphic design or communications. Mason Evans is the son of Mark Evans and Kim Rogers. He attends Wilburton High School where he is a member of the academic team, student council, FBLA, speech club and science club. He is the senior class representative on the student council, is co-president of the speech club, and is a state FBLA champion in business math and business communications. He placed 1st at the district Voice of Democracy essay contest, 3rd at the regional Voice of Democracy essay contest and 4th place in prose and 5th place in dramatic duet at the state speech contest. Evans is a volunteer at the Wilburton Elementary School and at the Lutie Cemetery Thrift Store. He enjoys hunting, fishing, football and watching movies. He plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to pursue a B.A. in finance and then attend the University of Oklahoma School of Law.
