Top of the class

Crowder High School names top honors

McALESTER — Tyler Hubbard has been honored as valedictorian, and Kathryn Christine Cecil and Kady Alene Martin have been recognized as salutatorians at the 2013 Crowder High School graduation.

Commencement was set for May 11 at 7 p.m. at the new Crowder School gymnasium.

Hubbard is the son of Gregory and Melinda Hubbard, of Indianola, and the grandson of Larry and Frankie Hubbard and Larry and Carolyn Allen. He is the great-grandson of Helen Hubbard and the late PM Hubbard, Barbara Allen and the late Raymond Allen, and Juanita Ford and the late Walter Ford.

Tyler has maintained a 4.25 grade point average and has been on the Principal’s and Superintendent’s Honor Rolls throughout his school career. He is also a member of the National and Oklahoma Honor Societies, has been a member of FFA where he showed pigs, and was on the bowling team for three years. He has completed 68 hours at Eastern Oklahoma State College in concurrent enrollment and is also employed at Diamond Trophy and Engraving where he works 35 hours each week.

He plans to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in computer information systems.

Cecil is the daughter of Anna and David Killebrew, of McAlester, and Jeff Cecil, of Tulsa. Her maternal grandparents are Claude and Judy Stafford, of Wetumka, and paternal grandparents are Bill and June Cecil, of Wilburton, and Clara and Ron Clark, of Hartshorne.

She has maintained a 3.93 grade point average and has been on the Principal’s and Superintendent’s Honor Rolls. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past two years and the Oklahoma Honor Society for the past three years. She won third place at the EOSC Science Fair with her project in pathology, and competed at the Oklahoma State Science Fair.

Kathryn participated in the VFW “Voice of Democracy” writing contest, winning first place for the local contest and third for regional. She is a member of Crowder 4-H where she was a member of the Leadership Council for Pittsburg County and attended the Regional Leadership Conference in Denver, Colo. She has won numerous cooking and photography awards while competing in 4-H. She has been inducted into the Tri M Music Honors Society for Instrumental Guitar, participated on the CHS Bowling team for three years and was recognized as All Regional Bowler in 2012.

She has completed 18 college hours while in high school and plans to attend to pursue a degree in forensic pathology.

Martin is the granddaughter of Donald and Betty Williams and Maurice and Marcella Gray. She has maintained a 3.93 GPA during her high school career and has been named to the Principal’s and Superintendent’s Honor Rolls, as well as the National and Oklahoma’s Honor Societies. Kady has also been a member of the Academic Team and currently tutors Crowder Junior High students. She also attends college and has completed 18 hours.

Her future plans are to attend the University of Central Oklahoma to pursue a degree in criminology.
