Two Wilburton High School seniors were recognized as Students of the Month for January by members of the Wilburton Kiwanis Club. The students were special guests during the club’s Wednesday, February 5 meeting held in the Student Life Center on the campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. Pictured left, Hunter Nixon, is the son of Doug and Shawnna Nixon. He attends Wilburton High School where he is a member of the Digger basketball and baseball teams and student council.  He has served as secretary-treasurer of student council, is a team captain in basketball and was selected as a delegate to Oklahoma Boys State. 

Nixon is active in his church’s youth group, has assisted with the Red Cross blood drive, served as a tutor for elementary students and helped with the EOSC toy drive. He plans to attend Eastern Oklahoma State College upon graduation and is currently undecided on a major. Rachel Savage, right, is the daughter of Bill and Andrea Savage. She attends Wilburton High School where she is a member of the science club, Spanish club, student council, Oklahoma Honor Society, National Honor Society and the Lady Digger fast-pitch softball team. She has served as the student council vice-president, science club secretary and Spanish club vice-president. She was selected as a delegate to Oklahoma Girls State where she served as Garman city reporter and associate district judge.  She is ranked third academically in her senior class, has been listed to the superintendent’s honor roll, was a member of the Lady Digger fast-pitch softball district championship team and was honored as the softball defensive MVP.
