School notes

OBU names top students

SHAWNEE — Four McAlester area residents have been named to

the President’s Honor Roll at Oklahoma Baptist University for the spring

2008 semester. OBU’s President’s Honor Roll recognizes students who achieved a grade point average of 3.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale for coursework during the semester.

David Matthew Auld is a senior pursuing a bachelor of science in Biology.

Scott L. Reed is a special pursuing a bachelor of arts in Christian Studies.

Thomas Charles Tipps is a freshman pursuing a bachelor of arts in Applied Ministry: Pastoral Emphasis.

Amanda Rochelle Eakle is a junior pursuing a bachelor of arts in Psychology: Pre-Counseling.

Located in Shawnee, OBU offers 10 bachelor’s degrees with 82 fields of study. The Christian liberal arts university has an overall enrollment of 1,607, with students from 39 states and 21 other countries. OBU has been rated as one of the top 10 comprehensive colleges in the West by U.S. News and World Report for 16 consecutive years and has been Oklahoma’s highest rated comprehensive college in the U.S. News rankings for 14 consecutive years.



ECU awards announced

Students in East Central University’s College of Health and Sciences have received recognitions and awards for their academic achievements during the 2007-08 academic year.

Research Day Presenters included Audrey Myers of Ada, Alisha Shepherd of Snow, Jesse Redden of Ardmore, Stephanie McCarty of Ringling, David Rogers of McAlester and James E. Brown III of Cushing. Audrey Myers was also recognized for presenting at ECU’s Academic Excellence Day and Research Day at the Capitol.

Outstanding Senior Computer Science Majors were George Larson of Kiowa, Steven Ashley of McAlester, Justin Lane of Sapulpa, Matt Wiles of Shawnee and Manuel Rojas.

Rebecca Andrews of Ada and Tammy Dee Banker of Durant were recognized for gaining Oklahoma Nursing Association Region Six Membership.
