Man charged in rape of disabled girl
A preliminary hearing was set Friday for a McAlester man arrested on four counts of rape of a disabled 14-year-old girl.
The following felony cases were filed in Pittsburg County District Court Jan. 24 to Feb. 5.

Local man held for several charges of lewd molestation
A McAlester man has been charged with lewd molestation, sodomy of a victim under 16 years old and four counts of first-degree rape of a victim with a developmental disability, according to an affidavit filed Jan. 24 at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.
Court records show Robert Dale Hoover, 56, is accused of raping the juvenile at his home on East Crisler Avenue in McAlester.
Woman allegedly assaulted with sword
A local man could face life imprisonment after allegedly assaulting a woman with a sword during an altercation in Krebs Saturday night, according to an affidavit filed at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.
Jimmy Robert Steele, 33, of Krebs, was charged Monday with assault and battery with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor counts of threatening to perform an act of violence and malicious injury to property totaling less than $1,000.
An Oklahoma State Penitentiary inmate with an extensive history has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his cell-mate last July, according to an affidavit filed Tuesday at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.
Mikell P. Smith, known by some behind the walls as “Bulldog”, stands accused of strangling Timothy Hale to death with a bed sheet in their shared cell, the affidavit states. Court records show the charge was the result of an investigation by Kathy R. Mordecai, an agent with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Internal Affairs Unit.
