McAlester man pleads to indecent exposure

McALESTER — A McAlester man recently pleaded no contest to an amended charge of indecent exposure.

Anthony Glynn Monroe, 19, entered the plea on Dec. 14 in Pittsburg County District Court.

He was originally charged earlier this year with one felony count of first degree rape for allegedly having inappropriate sexual relations with a 12-year-old girl.

On a motion by the District 18 District Attorney’s Office, the charge was amended to indecent exposure.

According to a police affidavit, the young girl’s grandparents contacted authorities to report that their granddaughter had been sneaking out of the house to meet up with Monroe.

When police conducted a forensic interview on the young girl, she told them that she had snuck out of the house four times to meet Monroe and, during one of those meetings, she allegedly had sexual relations with the defendant.

Monroe received a two-year suspended sentence and was ordered to register as a Level I sex offender. Monroe declined to comment when contacted by the News-Capital.
