McALESTER — A Valliant teenager has been hospitalized with head injuries after her truck hit a tree off the Indian Nation Turnpike early Friday morning.

A report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol indicates Morgan Carter, 17, fell asleep while northbound on the turnpike at about mile marker 51 in Pittsburg County. Her truck, a 1992 Dodge pickup, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree at about 5:45 a.m., according to the report filed by trooper Marshall Hawthorne of the Indian Nation detachment of OHP.

Carter was taken to McAlester Regional Health Center and then St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where she was listed in stable condition, according to the report.

The trooper reported Carter was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, and that the truck was not equipped with air bags.
