Inmate found dead at OSP

McALESTER — The Saturday death of an inmate at Oklahoma State Penitentiary remains under investigation by the state Department of Corrections.

Deb Victor, 46, was found in his cell in the prison’s A Unit at 3:20 a.m. and was pronounced dead by prison medical staff 13 minutes later, according to a press released received by the McAlester News-Capital on Thursday.

Victor, who was serving a murder sentence out of McCurtain County, had been housed with a cellmate at OSP, but there was no indication of foul play, according to the press release.

Victor had been at OSP since 2005 when he was convicted of Cleveland County charges of possession of contraband in a prison. He had initially been sentenced to 60 years for second-degree murder, and 75 years for solicitation of murder, in McCurtain County in 1995, and earlier in 1995 was convicted of using a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a firearm in Pittsburg County. He was sentenced to 20 years on the Pittsburg County charge.

DOC Public Information Officer Jerry Massie declined to answer questions about the inmate’s death, citing the investigation.

According to the press release, a cause of death is to be determined by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office.
