Quinton man accused of gun assault

McALESTER — A Quinton man was recently accused of pointing a gun at a woman’s face.

This is not the first time that Michael Dean Krebbs, 39, of Quinton, has had a run-in with the law regarding a gun assault. In 2006, he was charged with shooting and killing Ty Mordecai outside Krebbs’ home east of Blocker in the early morning hours of Aug. 3, 2006.

In August of 2007, a Pittsburg County jury found Krebbs not guilty of first degree murder.

During the trial, Krebbs testified that he did indeed shoot Mordecai, but that he did so in self-defense.

Krebbs and his attorney, Warren Gotcher, contended all along that Krebbs acted in self defense, when he fired a .9 millimeter pistol and killed Mordecai with a single shot to the chest.

It took jurors about an hour and 10 minutes to come back with a not guilty verdict. Jurors also found Krebbs not guilty of a lesser crime of first-degree manslaughter in the heat of passion.

In his most recent case, filed in Pittsburg County District Court on Oct. 9, Krebbs is charged with one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon. According to court records, McAlester Police officers were dispatched Oct. 6 to the 700 block of East Seneca Avenue regarding a man allegedly pointing a gun at a woman.

When police arrived on the scene, they saw Krebbs inside the cab of a white Ford pickup truck, a police affidavit states. After police ordered Krebbs to get out of the truck, a “female later identified as Amanda Jefferies came running from the house with smeared eye makeup,” a police affidavit states. “She was saying that ‘he’ pointed a gun at me.”

When police searched the truck, they found a Springfield XD40 sub compact semi-automatic handgun, the affidavit states. Jefferies told police that Krebbs had allegedly accused her of stealing money and allegedly pointed a gun at her head threatening to kill her, the affidavit states.

A witness at the scene told police that Jefferies allegedly took money from Krebbs’ wallet while he was sleeping, according to the affidavit. The witness said she woke Krebbs up and told him about the alleged theft. “...Mike (Krebbs) pulled a gun on Amanda (Jefferies) and told her to fork over the money,” the affidavit states.
