Missouri man allegedly steals two nailguns

McALESTER — An out-of-state man was detained and arrested at Lowe’s  Home Improvement on George Nigh Expressway Sunday afternoon for allegedly trying to steal more than $600 worth of nail-guns.

James McDaniel, 64, of Webb City, Mo., was booked Sunday and charged Monday with larceny of merchandise from a retailer, a felony.

According to a police log, McAlester Police Officer Mickey Virden was dispatched to the scene at 3:46 p.m. Sunday. McDaniel had allegedly been stopped by Lowe’s employees.

According to the log, two nail-guns were listed as being taken. The nail guns listed were a Hitachi Coil Siding Nailer, valued at $349, and a Hitachi Roofing Nailer, valued at $259.

According to a police affidavit that Virden wrote, a Lowe’s employee asked McDaniel to remove a coat that he had placed over his basket before he left the store. When he did, the two nail-guns were allegedly revealed.

According to the affidavit, McDaniel allegedly told store employees that he had been stealing from Lowes to pay for his medication.

If convicted, McDaniel could face up to one year in the county jail, and up to a $5,000 fine.
