Arrest warrants issued in robbery of casino winner

McALESTER — Felony arrest warrants have been issued for a couple wanted in connection with the robbery of a McAlester man, with the bond set for the two at $500,000 each.

Richard “Rocky” Blackman, 30, and Toni Fourkiller, 31, both of McAlester, have been charged with first-degree robbery by force and fear.

They are wanted in connection with the Sunday morning robbery and beating of Phillip Ira Stephens, 69, of  McAlester, said Morris. Stephens was robbed of more than $10,000 after returning home early Sunday from the Choctaw Casino in McAlester, said McAlester Police Det. Sgt. Chris Morris.

Stephens was attacked and robbed outside his residence on West Jackson Avenue after he parked and got out of his pickup truck, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

The charge alleges that the two robbed Stephens “by grabbing him and hitting him repeatedly in the face, demanding that he give them his money...”

As Blackman struck Stephens in the face, Fourkiller took the money from his pockets and ran to the car in which she and Blackman had followed Stephens home from the casino, according to allegations in the affidavit.

The attack continued until a neighbor who said she heard screaming and loud voices, stepped outside. When she went outside she saw a white male assaulting Stephens, the affidavit states.

When she yelled at the man to stop, he ran from the scene and got into the same tan-colored automobile as Fourkiller, and the car backed down West Jackson Street to the intersection of D Street, then headed, the affidavit states.

Stephens remained hospitalized on Tuesday, said Morris.

Meanwhile, police say they nearly caught up with the two Monday night in Eufaula.

After getting reports that Blackman and Fourkiller had been spotted in a Eufaula store, McAlester police, working with Eufaula police, worked on locating the couple.

“We sent detectives up there,” Morris said. Fourkiller and Blackman had a room rented at the Loyal Inn in Eufaula, he said.

Police set up surveillance at the site, but Blackman and Fourkiller never returned to the room, even though they had it rented until 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to Morris.

Police were able to enter the room.

“We recovered some of their belongings,” Morris said.

As part of the investigation into the Sunday morning assault, McAlester Police Det. Frankie McClendon and police patrolman Charlie Rogers viewed video surveillance footage from the Choctaw Casino. The footage showed Blackman and Fourkiller watching Stephens inside the casino early Sunday morning and then following as he left, according to allegations in the affidavit.

The U.S. Marshals Service is assisting with the search and information on Blackman and Fourkiller have been entered in the National Crime Information Center law enforcement computer system, Morris said.

“If they’re out there and read the paper, they’d be better off to turn themselves in,” Morris said. “We’re going to find them and bring them to justice.”
