Area preacher busted for alleged child pornography

McALESTER — A Eufaula man is facing child pornography charges after authorities said they found photos of nude boys at the man’s home.

Charles Dale Saviers, 78, is free on $10,000 bond and will return to court in March for a pre-preliminary conference.

Saviers was arrested at his Eufaula-area home after authorities found images of naked young men at his Eagle Bluff residence, said McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office Detective Tonya French. The photographs were allegedly taken inside a room at Saviers’ home, French said.

Saviers is listed online as the minister of the Alderson United Methodist Church on the church’s website. Alderson is a small community southeast of McAlester.

Saviers was formally charged Monday with pornography — procure/produce/distribute/possess juvenile pornography. Online court records show he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was ordered to remain away from “victims or witnesses and boys under the age of 18 years old.”

If found guilty, Saviers faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $25,000.

French said two young boys doing odd jobs for Saviers discovered the photos last week.

“They were working around the house, and they came across porn pictures of boys undressed,” French said. “They had been printed out in his home office.”

French said the boys took the photographs and turned them in to law enforcement. After securing a search warrant, authorities searched Saviers’ home Friday night, and placed Saviers into custody when he arrived home. Additional pornographic material, including images of young males that appeared to have been downloaded from various websites, were found in Saviers’ attic, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

Court documents state furniture seen in some of the images matches furniture inside a room authorities searched Friday at Saviers’ home.

“During the interview he admitted to burning some other photos before law enforcement arrived,” French said.

An affidavit filed in the case states Saviers was informed law enforcement had the photos. When Saviers was asked what the photos contained, he replied “a young boy without any clothes on, they were horrible pictures. I just don’t keep stuff like that so I burned them.”

French informed Saviers she had photographs depicting a “young boy nude from the waist down that were taken in (Saviers’) bedroom, and in the photo (Saviers’) hand was seen cupping the boy’s genitals.”

Saviers replied, “I thought I had burned those pictures,” according to the affidavit.

French said she had identified the boys in some of the photos, but had not interviewed them as of Tuesday morning. Because Saviers said he had burned other photos, French said she’s not aware of how many potential victims there are.

“These were boys that have come up through the church,” French said. “There have been boys living there in the past.”
