Two McAlester men get federal prison time for drug charge

McALESTER — Two McAlester men were recently sentenced to serve nearly four years in federal prison for drug convictions.

Leonard Ray Austin, 34, and Nathan Bernard Johnson, 47, were sentenced June 18 to 46 months imprisonment followed by three years supervised release.

They had both previously pleaded guilty in the United States Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma of possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.

“Charges arose from an investigation conducted by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration in cooperation with the District 18 Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, McAlester Police Department, Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department, Krebs Police Department, Muskogee Police Department, Tulsa Police Department, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs,” according to a press release from U.S. Attorney’s Office - EDOK.

According to court records, Austin and Bernard conspired between May 2011 and April 2012 to possess and distribute cocaine.

The two men will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service until they are transferred to the designated federal prison at which they will serve their nonparolable sentences.
