Local man held for several charges of lewd molestation

McALESTER — A McAlester man has been charged with lewd molestation, sodomy of a victim under 16 years old and four counts of first-degree rape of a victim with a developmental disability, according to an affidavit filed Jan. 24 at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

Court records show Robert Dale Hoover, 56, is accused of raping the juvenile at his home on East Crisler Avenue in McAlester. Det. Frankie McClendon of the McAlester Police Department investigated the allegation.

“He was charged in a separate case so we arrested him on that initially,” McClendon said. “ He was arrested for that last Thursday. He posted bond on Friday and was released.”

The charges he was arrested for on Jan. 23 alleged two counts of lewd molestation involving two different juvenile girls, according to court documents. However, McClendon said Hoover was under investigation again for the more recent allegations on the same day he bonded out of Pittsburg County Jail.

“On Friday, Jan. 24 I began the investigation on the rape of a 14-year-old girl,” McClendon said. “I got the report filed, but before the report could get to the district attorney’s office he posted bond. So we arrested him again on Saturday.”

The affidavit states the alleged sexual relations between Hoover and the juvenile were consensual, but Hoover was charged with first-degree rape due to the victim’s age and her developmental disability.

If convicted of both cases, Hoover faces up to 140 years in prison. Hoover is currently being held in the county jail in lieu of a $350,000 bond.
