The Pittsburg County commissioners unanimously approved more than $175,000 in state Rural Economic Action Plan funds to benefit some county roads and fire departments.
The action happened during the commissioner’s regular meeting at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.
According to the subcontracts signed by District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith during the meeting, Blue Volunteer Fire Dept. will receive $14,827.86 for construction of a concrete reinforced apron parking lot in front of the Blue fire station.
The subcontract states that property is in a long -term lease from the county.
A total of $9,192 will go to the Haywood-Arpelar Volunteer Fire Dept. for purchase of 12 fire hoses and six nozzle adapters, the contract states.
The Ashland Volunteer Fire Department will receive $26,550 for six self-contained breathing apparatuses and masks, according to the subcontract.
And the REAP grant will also give $41,743.38 for District 1 to repair Nale and Blackberry Roads including grade and drainage, and chip and seal repair, the subcontract states.
Also approved was a REAP grant for $41,743 for District 2 repairs sections of Hardy Spring Road including grade and drainage, and chip and seal repair, according to the subcontract.
Also attending Monday’s meeting were District 3 Commissioner Trent Myers and District 1 Commissioner Gene Rogers.
The Pittsburg County commissioners meet Mondays at 9 a.m. in the commissioner’s conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.
