McALESTER — A Pittsburg County commissioner said no competitive bids were requested for property the county commissioners agreed to lease for a $7,800 a year.
During Monday’s regular meeting of the Pittsburg County Commissioners Chairman Gene Rogers said the property in Canadian leased by agreement at last week's meeting from a Muskogee land owner for $7,800 a year was the only one available with the facilities he was looking for.
“There wasn’t another property in the area with a shop and the six-foot fence on it,” Rogers said.
Rogers said the new lease will replace another shop he had in Longtown.
“We needed to lease it now because it takes time to buy it.”
And he said the commissioners did not put out a bid for property to lease or to buy in the Canadian area.
“No we didn’t put it out for bid,” Rogers said.
Also attending Monday’s meeting were District 3 Commissioner Ronnie Young and District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith.
Pittsburg County commissioners meet every Monday at 9 a.m. in the county commissioners' Conference Room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.
