Wilburton man accused of being a peeping tom

McALESTER — A Wilburton man was recently accused of being a “peeping tom” for allegedly looking under a stall in the women’s bathroom at Walmart Supercenter in McAlester.

Randal Duane Barham, 26, was charged Tuesday in Pittsburg County District Court with one count of misdemeanor peeping tom and one count of misdemeanor public intoxication.

According to court records, McAlester Police Officer Preston Rodgers responded to a call at Walmart Supercenter on Sunday in reference to a peeping tom. “Rodgers went to Walmart and made contact with the victim, Rachel Carter,” a police affidavit states.

“Carter told Rodgers that she walked into the women’s bathroom at Walmart and went inside a stall to use the restroom,” the affidavit states. “Carter told Rodgers that while she was in the stall she kept noticing a bill of a hat coming underneath the wall of the stall next to her. Carter advised that she leaned down and noticed a white male looking at her.”

According to the affidavit, Carter immediately left the restroom and stood outside the door, waiting for someone to alert the store manager.

Barham then allegedly exited the women’s bathroom, entered the men’s bathroom, and then exited the men’s bathroom and left Walmart, the affidavit states.

Carter, along with a Walmart employee, followed Barham out of the store, the affidavit states, and contacted police.

Authorities caught up with Barham in the Denny’s parking lot, according to the affidavit, and placed him under arrest. Police then secured video footage from the surveillance cameras at Walmart. “The video showed Barham go into the men’s restroom and then leave the men’s restroom and enter the women’s restroom,” the affidavit states.

“After Barham entered the women’s restroom Carter entered the women’s restroom. Carter then exited the restroom and stood by the door of the women’s restroom. Barham came back out of the women’s restroom and went back into the men’s restroom. Barham came out of the men’s restroom and started walking to the front of the store with Carter following him.”
