Suspended city police officer exonerated, back on duty

McALESTER — A McAlester police officer is back on duty now that a felony charge against him has been dismissed in district court, upheld on review, and been dismissed on appeal.

Gregory Dillin Munholland has returned to the force as a McAlester police patrolman, McAlester Police Chief Jim Lyles confirmed.

“He has been exonerated,” Lyles said. Munholland, 26, had been suspended with pay since being charged last year with a felony count of distribution of a controlled substance.

He had been accused of distributing dihydrocodeinone,  during an event that had been alleged to have occurred on Jan. 21, 2011. He faced a sentence of from two years to life in prison if convicted.

Munholland had been accused of giving a single pain pill to dispatcher at the police department.

The charge has been dismissed in Pittsburg County District Court by Associate District Judge James Bland, who granted a defense motion filed on Munholland’s behalf to suppress the prosecution’s evidence.
