1 arrested, 2 sought in Hartshorne home invasion

McALESTER — An alleged burglary of a home in Hartshorne in which a woman was reportedly assaulted with a pair of brass knuckles has led to one arrest and two outstanding warrants for three men in Pittsburg County, affidavits filed by the Hartshorne Police Department at the Pittsburg County Courthouse state.

Rodney McClendon, 48, turned himself in to the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday after being sought in connection to the alleged crime which occurred on Dec. 20. Records show McClendon was released the same day after posting a $5,000 bond pending a Jan. 17 court appearance.

Hartshorne police have also issued warrants for Jaron Levi Adams, 28, and James Wilburn Carter, 53, both of Hartshorne, who are also suspected in the alleged burglary of a LeHigh Avenue home. The two remained at large Thursday.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. Dec. 20, the affidavit states Hartshorne police responded to a possible domestic dispute in progress reported by ADT security after an alarm was triggered inside the home. The man living at the residence then came out of the home and told police a female victim inside had been beaten by intruders who had entered the house without knocking, the affidavit states. Records show he then led officers to the woman who stated she had been standing in the dining area when Carter allegedly knocked her to the ground and began choking her. 

 She stated Adams then stood over her and the male victim brandishing brass knuckles while both Adams and Carter demanded to know the location of a safe inside the home, according to the affidavit. During the attack, the resident alleged McClendon stood near the alarm panel demanding it be shut off. The resident of the home then reportedly told McClendon it was too late and police were already headed to the house.

All three of the alleged

intruders were able to escape before police arrived. However, the report states both the resident and a friend who was also inside the home were able to identify the alleged burglars as McClendon, Adams and Carter.

The friend had been in another room hooking up a DVD player when the attack began, the affidavit states. As the attack progressed, the friend hid from the alleged intruders in a closet. He reportedly remained hidden in the closet until discovered by Hartshorne police.

Documents indicate police took photographs of the female’s injuries and contacted both Pittsburg and Latimer county sheriff’s departments to be on the lookout for the suspects and a white Dodge truck believed to be involved in the incident.

McClendon could not be contacted for comment. His attorney, Richard Lerblance, did not immediately return a phone call.
