DNA used to identify fugitive's remains

McALESTER — Authorities used DNA from a convicted offender specimen to identify remains found in December on a ranch north of Quinton.

The remains were identified in June 20 as those of convicted sex offender Timothy “Tim” Curtis Peterson, 29, last seen Sept. 10, 2009, according to report issued June 26 by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Oklahoma City.

Peterson’s  remains were investigated the Pittsburg County Sheriffs  Dec. 13 after they received a call regarding human bones found on a ranch just north of Quinton, off State Highway 71.

Pittsburg County Investigator Tommy Lyons and OCME Anthropologist Angela Berg processed the scene and determined the remains had been at the site from two to five years.

According the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Peterson was a registered sex offender who brutally raped and forcibly sodomized a 7-year-old girl in 2000.

He was last seen Sept. 10 2009 the same day he was accused of beating his 70-year-old grandfather unconscious with pool stick, and piece of wood. Peterson was also accused of stealing his grandfathers truck and $2,000, the report states.

He was last register as a sex offender on July 15, 2009 and was declared a delinquent offender on Dec. 14, 2009.

He was considered extremely dangerous, according to the US Marshals Service.

In March the OSBI completed a facial reconstruction from Peterson’s remains in an effort to identify them.

Authorities say they haven’t determined how or when Peterson died.
