McALESTER — Two vehicle accidents took place Saturday, one in Pittsburg County and one in Latimer County, and one accident was fatal.

Ila Brown, 60, of Checotah, died Saturday morning just after 10 a.m. after the 2004 Hyundai she was driving departed the roadway and landed in Lake Eufaula in about 10 feet of water.

Brown’s vehicle departed State Highway 9, about a mile and a half west of Longtown in Pittsburg County, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. Her vehicle struck a guardrail, continued southbound over riprap and ended up in Lake Eufaula, about “25 feet from the shoreline and in approximately 10 foot of water,” the report states.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene and her cause of death “is unknown at this time pending medical examiners report,” the report states.

Later that day, at 8:49 p.m., Terry Hill, 49, of Hartshorne, was riding a 1996 Harley Davidson with Julie Griffin, 32, of Wilburton, as passenger. They were traveling on High Bridge Road about four miles west of Wilburton in Latimer County when the Harley ran off the right side of the road, according to an OHP report, and “overturned onto its right side striking a ditch.

Hill was taken to Latimer County Hospital where he was treated and released for a head and arm injury, the report states. Griffin was transported my medical aircraft to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where she is listed in serious condition with multiple injuries, the report states.
