Four vehicle accident causes two women massive injuries

McALESTER — One person was transported by Tulsa Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after an accident involving a semi truck and three smaller vehicles, shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

The accident occurred east of Bache on U.S. Highway 270 when a 2001 KIA Sedona driven by Marlene Adams, 57, of McAlester, swerved right to avoid striking a 1998 Jeep Cherokee driven by Gina Bay, 18, of Hartshorne, that was stopped in the westbound lane waiting to make a left turn, according to OHP reports.

The OHP report says, when Adams swerved to miss Bay, she struck a westbound 2012 International semi truck driven by Elijah Bradely, 64, of Cedar Hill, Texas. Adams’ KIA then overturned once and came to rest on its wheels.

A westbound 2002 Ford Excursion driven by Freddie Wood, 32, of Hartshorne, struck Bay, causing her Jeep to overturn once and came to rest on its wheels.

The collision was caused by an unsafe lane change, according to OHP reports.

Adams sustained massive injuries and was transported by Tulsa Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital. She was listed in stable condition as of 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to OHP reports.

According to OHP, Bay sustained massive injuries. She was transported by Southeast EMS to McAlester Regional Health Center and was to be transported by Southeast EMS to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Her condition was not known at the time this article was prepared for publication.

Bradley, Wood and Wood’s passenger, Shirley Wood, 61, of Hartshorne, were not injured, according to the highway patrol report.
