KREBS — A local man could face life imprisonment after allegedly assaulting a woman with a sword during an altercation in Krebs Saturday night, according to an affidavit filed at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

Jimmy Robert Steele, 33, of Krebs, was charged Monday with assault and battery with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor counts of threatening to perform an act of violence and malicious injury to property totaling less than $1,000.

Krebs police apprehended Steele at gunpoint on Sunday in the parking lot of the Krebs Korner store when, after noticing the officers, he appeared to reach under the seat of his Toyota Tacoma truck, the affidavit states. Police had been tipped off by a 911 call stating that the alleged victim was at the store and Steele was parked there waiting for her. The caller stated the alleged victim was afraid Steele might harm her and he was armed with a knife.

Steel was removed from the truck and handcuffed, the affidavit states, and officers found a folding knife and a Colt Defender air pistol in the vehicle. He was arrested when alleged victim notified police she wished to press charges.

The woman also told police she was allegedly attacked by Steele with a sword the previous evening, the affidavit states. The woman’s description of the alleged attack was included in the affidavit.  Court records show the description was taken from a voluntary statement she gave to the Krebs Police Department.

“Jimmy started holding a sword at my throat saying he was going to cut my head off,” the affidavit states. “He cut my shirt and left a mark on my skin.”

Court records show the victim was also allegedly hit in the head with a flashlight during the incident. She also contended Steele caused bruising to her back and left leg while forcing her from his vehicle into the Northwest Miami residence the two share. The woman alleged the dispute continued once she and Steele were inside the home.

“In the house he hit the back door with two big knives that got stuck,” the affidavit continues. “He was saying he was going to kill me, my daughter and my mom.”

Krebs Police Chief Dennis Cook said no weapons were confiscated from Steele’s truck or home.

“As far as I know, the couple has split up,” Cook said. “To my understanding all of his belongings are going to be left out front. We didn’t take any of his belongings, but that could change. He is over in county awaiting arraignment.”
