Judge orders competency examination

A man who was charged on June 2 with assault with a dangerous weapon and burglary in the first degree, along with misdemeanor peeping tom and assault and battery, will undergo a competency test.

On Wednesday, Anthony Thomas, 29, appeared in front of Special District Judge Tim Mills with his lawyer, Kimberly Adams. Adams asked Mills for the competency test, and Mills agreed.

Mills first asked Thomas if he would agree to the test before ordering one. Thomas told Mills that he would.

The test is to be done before July 18. The competency hearing will take place then at 9 a.m.

Thomas is accused of assaulting two minors with a children’s scooter after allegedly breaking in a home. He is also accused of trying to peep at a teenage girl who was changing clothes, according to court documents.

Thomas pleaded not guilty to those charges at his initial hearing on June 2.
