Commissioners approve safety awards

McALESTER — The Pittsburg County commissioners approved $39,250 in safety awards for county employees on Monday.

The commissioners met Monday for a regular meeting at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

Yearly safety awards of $250 each are given to county employees who are not involved in a reportable work accident, according to District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith.

Smith said the commissioners and other elected officials do not receive the $250 each because “elected officials are not premitted to receive a safety award.”

This year, 157 employees will be getting the $250 check, according to Pittsburg County Clerk Hope Trammel.

In other business, the commissioners voted to make changes to the Pittsburg County 911/E911 Advisory and Oversight Board during the meeting.

District 3 Commissioner Trent Myers was appointed as a the commissioner’s representative to the 911/ E911 Advisory Board.

Myers will replace District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith who had served his term in the position.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the commissioners unanimously voted to appoint Pittsburg County Office of Emergency Management Director Kevin Enloe as the county’s new safety coordinator.

The position was previously held by former emergency management director Myers who resigned from director position when he was elected as District 3 commissioner last year.

Also attending Monday’s meeting was District 1 Commissioner Gene Rogers.

Pittsburg County commissioners meet Mondays at 9 a.m. in the commissioner’s conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

The meetings are open to the public.
