Holdenville man gets prison time for gun assault

McALESTER — A Holdenville man was recently sentenced to prison for breaking in another man’s home and assaulting him with a shotgun.

Billy Jack Thomason, 37, was charged in the case in Pittsburg County District Court in September 2012 along with co-defendant Andrea Gayle Beall, 33, of McAlester. Both Beall and Thomason were charged with second degree burglary and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction. Thomason was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon and in a separate case, he was charged with larceny from the house.

Thomason pleaded guilty May 13 to all counts against him and was sentenced to 25 years, with the last 13 years suspended. Beall had previously pleaded guilty on April 18 and was sentenced to 15 years, with the last five years suspended.

According to court records, Beall and Thomason broke into the Alderson home of Jimmy Dale Giacomo on Sept. 24, according to court records. Prior to the break in, Thomason had stolen a shotgun from a woman’s home in Bache.

Giacomo told police he was getting ready to cook supper when he heard a vehicle, a police affidavit states. Giacomo looked out his window and saw his ex-girlfriend, Beall, walking down his driveway. Giacomo told police he didn’t answer the door and then heard a noise behind his home. When Giacomo went to investigate the source of the noise, he saw Beall crawling through a doggie door and saw Thomason enter a side door in his home.

According to court records, Giacomo told police that Thomason pointed a shotgun at him and fired. Giacomo was able to move away from the blast and retrieved his own shotgun and returned fire through a wall in the home.

Thomason and Beall left the scene and Giacomo called police and informed the authorities that he had shot Thomason, the affidavit states. Police attempted to follow the blood trail but weren’t able to locate Thomason until 5 a.m. the next morning. Thomason was found “next to a truck near a mobile home three blocks south of the crime scene,” the affidavit states. Thomason was “lifeflighted to a Tulsa hospital” where he received treatment for his injuries, the affidavit states.

After pleading guilty, Thomason was sentenced and fined $2,200.
