Two McAlester women settle meth lab case

McALESTER — Two McAlester women recently settled their outstanding methamphetamine lab cases.

Brandy Leigh Chapman, 31, pleaded guilty Nov. 29 to an amended charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine). She was fined $430 and ordered to complete District 18 Drug Court.

One of Chapman’s three co-defendants in the case, Misty Norton, 39, of McAlester, appeared in Pittsburg County District court on Dec. 11. Charges against her were dismissed without costs on a motion made by the District 18 District Attorney’s Office.

On May 22, an owner of a rental property noticed some strange activity taking place at the residence on East State Highway 31. When she notified authorities, District 18 Narcotics Task Force officers searched the residence and found numerous items associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

On June 22, four Chapman and Norton were charged in Pittsburg County District Court with manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine). Also charged in the case were Aaron Vance Vermillion, 32, of Krebs, and Dennis Marshall Jr., 29.

If Chapman completes drug court, the case against her will be dismissed. However, if she does not successfully complete drug court, she will be sentenced to serve 15 years in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

The case against Marshall was striken from the court docket in July and would have been rescheduled if either party — Marshall’s attorney or the DA’s office — had filed a motion to do so. A new court hearing date has not been set.

Vermillion is due back in court Jan. 9 at 10 a.m.
