McALESTER — A preliminary hearing was set Friday for a McAlester man arrested on four counts of rape of a disabled 14-year-old girl.

Robert Dale Hoover, 56, is also charged with lewd molestation and sodomy following an investigation by the McAlester Police Department.

Hoover appeared in Pittsburg County District Court on Friday and a preliminary hearing was set for Feb. 21.

Court records allege police were alerted by a counselor working with the girl, who lives in a rural area outside of McAlester. The counselor told police she spoke with the girl and her mother and learned the child had been spending time with Hoover. The counselor later spoke to the girl alone and allegedly was told the child had been having sex with Hoover at his home.

Following a forensic interview of the child, Hoover was charged and arrested on Jan. 24. He has pleaded innocent to the charges and remained jailed Friday in lieu of $350,000. He was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim in the case as a condition of his bond.

His attorney, Pat Layden, did not immediately return a phone call.
