Charge of lewd acts dismissed for McAlester man

McALESTER — A charge of lewd or indecent acts to a child younger than 16 was dismissed recently for a McAlester man.

William Stanton Hatridge, 19, was charged with the crime in July in Pittsburg County District Court. According to court records, Hatridge had been accused of inappropriately touching a seven-year-old boy while also inappropriately touching himself.

On Nov. 6, the charge against Hatridge was dismissed, according to court records.

“The judge didn’t feel that there was enough evidence that the touching was lewd or lascivious,” said District 18 Assistant District Attorney Wesley Cherry, adding that the child testified that the touching could have been accidental.

In seeking comment, a working phone number for Hatridge could not be located. Hatridge’s attorney, Stephen S. Barnes, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
