PITTSBURG COUNTY DISTRICT COURT LOGS

McALESTER — The following felony and misdemeanor cases were decided in Pittsburg County District Court July 30 - Aug. 6.

Dispositions include dismissed cases, suspended and deferred sentences and sentences from trials and plea bargains.

Listings do not include all court costs.

Felony cases

• Markis Curtis, 21, McAlester, pleaded guilty Aug. 31 to two counts of assault and battery on a police officer. He was fined $1,100 and sentenced to five years, with all but the first 38 days suspended. A charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed.

• William Grantham, 19, McAlester, pleaded guilty Aug. 1 to charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, inattentive driving, driving without a driver’s license, failure to carry insurance or a security verification form and petit larceny. He was fined $690, ordered to pay $2,620 in restitution and sentencing was deferred for five years. Charges of driving without a valid driver’s license, failure to carry insurance or a security verification form, failure to pay taxes due state and defective breaks were dismissed.

• James D. Schoggins, 20, McAlester, pleaded guilty Aug. 2 to an application to accelerate a deferred sentence on charges of possession of a controlled drug within 2,000 feet of a school or park, maintaining a place for keeping /selling controlled substances and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a five-year suspended sentence.

• Christopher S. McLennan, 24, McAlester, pleaded guilty Aug. 2 to a charge of obstructing an officer. He was fined $100. Charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed.

• Marshall D. Austin, 19, Quinton, pleaded guilty Aug. 2 to a charge of uttering a forged instrument. He was fined $300, ordered to pay $115 in restitution and received a five-year suspended sentence.

• George Schnexnaider, 50, Savanna, pleaded guilty Aug. 2 to a charge of embezzlement. He was fined $550, ordered to pay $2,666 in restitution and sentencing was deferred for five years.

• Kenneth B. McMath, 27, Kiowa, pleaded guilty Aug. 6 to charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), knowingly concealing stolen property and malicious injury to property valued less than $1,000. He was fined $1,130 and sentenced to seven years in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing an officer and public intoxication were dismissed.

• Billy Joe Barnhill, 36, Haileyville, pleaded no contest Aug. 6 to charges of lewd or indecent acts to a child younger than 16 years of age and second degree burglary. He also pleaded guilty to an application to revoke a suspended sentence on charged of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol (aggravated). He was fined $500 and sentenced to 20 years, with 15 years suspended. A charge of lewd or indecent acts to a child younger than 12 years of age was dismissed.
