McALESTER —

Middle school students representing four area schools recently competed at the 2014 Southeast Region MATHCOUNTS competition at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. The MATHCOUNTS Competition is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of “bee” style contests. After working throughout the school year, students enrolled in sixth, seventh and eighth grade compete at four levels including school, region, state and nationals. The top two teams and an All-Star Squad and a coach advance to the state competition on March 1 in Tulsa. The Canadian team members pictured standing are, Paul Brewster, Tyler Johnson, Corey Hoskins, Dominic Hernandez, Jacob Coffman, Coach Shana Grubis; and seated, Serena Woodard, Brentleigh Rousey, Lily Romero, Neva Northcutt and Dalton Lenox.
