Quinton High School students from art class and Oklahoma history classes traveled to Oklahoma City to visit the Capitol in early January. Students were able to view the Capital Art Collections, learn about Oklahoma’s government and Oklahoma’s historical past. Students experienced first hand the permanent sculptures, murals and portraits located throughout the Capitol.  Oklahoma’s State Capitol is home to art works by notable Oklahoma artists in museum-quality galleries and provides a unique way to engage students in the real life experiences about Oklahoma. Representative Brian Renegar’s office arranged for the House of Representatives voting Chamber to be unlocked for thirty-seven Quinton students. They were allowed to sit at the desks the representatives normally sit in during open session.  Representative Renegar also arranged for the Capitol photographer to take a picture of the Quinton group inside the Chamber. The trip was made possible with the assistance of the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.  The Oklahoma Arts Council awarded Quinton Public Schools a Capitol Art Travel Subsidy for this trip.
