180 attend Savanna reunion

The Savanna All-School Reunion was held June 24 at the Pearl Dunn Cafetorium with registration at 10 a.m.

There were 180 attending.

President Ralph Barrier, class of 1939, introduced Joe Brown, class of 1963, who gave the welcome. He also told the group bricks were still for sale to be placed on the Pathway of Bricks. The president recognized all teachers and the classes by years of graduation.

Vice-President James Hoover presented the Pearl Dunn scholarships for $500 each to Aaron Beshears and Dasha McBane. The James Sexton Scholarship of $500 went to Jason Travis.

Marcus Barnett, class of 1959, gave the memorial service for those who died in the past year.

Marie Gold, class of 1941, gave the secretarial and financial reports.

An election was held for secretary and treasurer. Ranae Moody was nominated for secretary and JoAnn Grippando was nominated as treasurer. They were unanimously approved.

The president gave monetary gifts to Bill Lawson, $100, donated by Janice Clinkenbeard of Clink’s Real Estate; Freeman Walkup, $50, donated by Paul and Joyce Davis; and David Boggs, $25, donated by Orb and Norma Deaton. Victor Dugger got a meal for two from Ball’s BBQ. Two meals for one each from Taco Pronto went to Murlene Kimball and Cindy Morgan. Morgan also got a power ball ticket. The money donations were presented to the alumni association.

Doc Coker was honored as the oldest graduate present. Moody was honored as the youngest graduate present. Anna Dobbs Wood was honored for traveling the farthest.

The next reunion will be June 30, 2007.
