— Keep certain herbicides on hand
ROUNDUP for broad-spectrum control
2,4-D amine for broadleaf control.
POAST for grass control.
REMEDY for brush control.
Rate conversion for “Spray to Wet”
Convert herbicide broadcast labeled rate to oz./acre (16 oz. + 1 pt.)
Divide oz/A by 100 to get ounces of herbicide to mix in 1 gallon of water
Spraying for Broadleaf Weeds
2/3 ounces of 2,4-D / gallon of water, or
2/3 ounces of WEEDMASTER / gallon of water
Mix with water and “spray to wet”.
Selectively controls broadleaves
Spraying for weedy grasses (mainly for flower beds and gardens)
Annuals 6 inches and under (1 1/8 ounces POAST & oil concentrate/gallon)
Perennials and annuals over 6 inches (1 oz POAST & oil concentrate/gallon)
Mix POAST and oil concentrate with water and spray to wet leaves.
Selectively controls grasses
Spraying for Tough Weeds (poison ivy, bermudagrass)
2 ounces of ROUNDUP / gallon of water and spray to wet.
Not selective and no residual.
May require respraying for 100 percent control.
Broadcast Spraying with Backpack
Need to calibrate to determine output.
Record time to spray (18.5 ft. by 18.5 ft. area = (1/128 of acre) with water only.
Collect water for the recorded time.
Ounces of water collected in recorded time = gallons / A output.

Spraying for brush (mixed hardwoods)
2 ounces REMEDY / gallon of water or,
Mixture / gallon of water (2/3 oz. REMEDY, 2/3 oz. surfactant, 2 oz. GRAZON P+D)
Mixture per 100 gallon of water ( 1 qt. REMEDY, 1 qt. surfactant, 1 gal. GRAZON P+D)
“Spray to wet” brush leaves.
Respray green leaves in about 3 weeks to maximize tree kill.
Low volume basal for brush
1 qt. REMEDY + 3 qt diesel = 25 percent mix.
Spray lower 12 inches of stem.
Wet all-around stem but not runoff.
Effective on small trees less than 2 in. diameter.
July to October best time, and March to May worst time.
Soil-treatment for brush
SPIKE 20P is 20 percent pellet formulation used for controlling individual stems.
For 1 to 3 inch diameter brush, use 1 tsp./plant.
For 4 to 5 inch diameter brush, use 3 tsp./plant.
Will not kill persimmons and cedars and will not work on clay soils.
Warning! Do not apply in root zone of desirable plant – stay at least 100 feet away.
