Jake Mabray, 93, of McAlester, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at his home.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Danny Hester and the Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be at Pryor Cemetery in Stuart. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Nov. 26, 1920, in Celestine, he was the son of Dillon and Myrtle (Dunn) Mabray. He attended Celestine School.
He served in the United States Navy as a seaman first class with the Seabees Regiment, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, in Hawaii and the Philippines during World War II.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator and crane operator for road and bridge construction.
He was a farmer and rancher. He enjoyed gardening and would sell watermelons and cantaloupes out of his truck.
He enjoyed horses and pulling a wagon with a mule team in parades. He also enjoyed taking long car rides with his family.
He was a member of Friendship Church of the Nazarene in Ashland. He enjoyed gospel singing and witnessing and was a faithful prayer warrior. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons, Dean Mabray and wife, Jerri, of Ashland, Gary Mabray and wife, Genice, of Kiowa, David Mabray and wife, Myra, of McAlester, and Brent Mabray, of Ashland.
Also, stepson, Bobby Oliver and wife, Cathy, of McAlester; stepdaughter, Renita Day and husband, Cecil, of McAlester; grandchildren, Robert Mabray and wife, Regina, Marilyn Beaver and husband, Danny, Sherry McBee and husband, Marty, Michael Mabray and wife, Alisa, Michele Vadnais and husband, Chad, Haley McClendon and husband, David, Amanda Britt and husband, Josh, Carissa Day, Nathan Oliver and wife, Tina, and Nikki Oliver.
And, great-grandchildren, Bo, Zack, Tyler, Alexis, Tristen, Grayson, Shelby, Ty, Tara, Taylor, Skyler, Paige, Allee, Abby, Jet, Cooper, Hadley, Kelsie, Brenna, Jaycee, Brittany and husband Brett, Brooke, Preston and Priscilla; great-great-grandchild, McKinley; sister, Delena Jackson and husband, Don, of Oklahoma City, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dillon and Myrtle Mabray; first wife, Wilda (Taylor) Mabray; second wife, Irene (Parkerson) Mabray; grandson, Mickey Mabray, and sisters, Fern Capehart and Dorthea Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Michael Mabray, Josh Mabray, Robert Mabray, Nathan Oliver, Bo Mabray, Zack Mabray and Tristan McBee.
Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandsons.
