Letter to the Editor

OKLAHOMA CITY — Editor:

In the News-Capital of July 26, Wanda Jo Stapleton suggested that in order for men to purchase Viagra, they should have to go through a process similarly complex to what women do when wanting an abortion. Equality and fairness is good, right?

But Wanda’s analogy is faulty. While a prescription for Viagra may produce a situation that is annoying to the patient’s partner, abortion requires that an innocent human being die.

While any legislature, I think, is sincerely concerned about the state of the reproductive health of all its citizens, that is not the issue here. Our legislature is trying to protect the most innocent and weak among us. The courts may make abortion legally right, but that does not make abortion morally right. Would you like to be treated like just a lump of tissue at any time in your life? What would be next, enforced euthanasia of aging former legislators?

I offer questions for Mrs. Stapleton to ponder. If you have control over your body, why are you pregnant? Why did to you write to a small paper in a small town at the opposite end of the state? Are you sincere in your opinion, or are you just looking for validation of your position?
