The 4-H Bread Baking, Craft and Photography Contests. All three of these contests are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16. We will accept entries from 1-1:30 p.m. in the Krebs School Cafeteria.
These contests are for ages 5-19 years-old 4-H members. Age divisions are ages 5-8 year olds for Clover-buds which are non competitive, ages 9-13 for juniors and ages 14 plus for senior divisions. Judging should be completed by around 3:30 p.m. and the exhibits should be available for release back to the 4-H members around that time that day.
These contests are designed to serve as practice for the County Free Fair to be held later this year. All exhibits will be judged and receive at minimum a ribbon. The grand champion craft and photography exhibits will be determined for each age group. Categories for the Craft and Photography Contests will follow the current categories for the County and State Fair entries. General craft categories include-fine art, ceramics, pottery, print process, decorative textile craft, nature craft, bead craft, leather-craft candles, fabric crafts, creative textile craft, puppets, paper craft, plastic crafts, duct tape crafts, and miscellaneous crafts. Categories for the photography contest include-four photos with one of each showing people, animals, plant life and scenery; four photos of people doing different things, showing a variety of activities, camera angles and lighting choices; common mistakes, photos telling a story, Best Individual Photo. For members that have taken photos for four to 6 years categories include-four photos showing good composition; four action photos; four photos showing effective lighting; Best Individual photo. For members that have taken photos for more than 6 years their categories include four photos showing knowledge of their lenses, lamps, lighting, filters, or special effects; four outstanding people pcitures; four landscape or nature photos and Best Individual Photo. These entries may be entered in the 2013 County Fair, but we do not want any entries from the 2012 County Fair. All exhibits should have name, age and club marked for each exhibit either on the item itself or with a tag of some sort (many clubs use fair tags for this event).
The Bread Baking entries have the following categories-white bread, whole wheat bread, other grain bread, dinner rolls and specialty breads (including sweet breads). Each Bread Baking entry must have an entry form and recipe. No quick breads-all items must contain yeast. All baking must be conducted in a conventional oven-no bread baking machines can be used. All breads must be made from scratch-no mixes. Members may enter one entry per category. Bread should be entered on a disposable plate covered with a see-thru wrap or placed in a zipper closure bag. Exhibits should consist of one whole loaf or three rolls. To help promote the visibility of the county 4-H program and its members, champion entries will be kept and shared with area supporters. All awards for grand champion entries will go to the 4-H members that earned them.
