On Saturday, Oct. 15, I attended the State Band Masters Marching Band contest in Moore. Each band did an excellent job and in my opinion it would have been very difficult job to be a judge. My granddaughter, Samantha Payne, is a junior at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City. (The school is named for McAlester’s own beloved Carl Albert).

Samantha plays trombone in her school band. They won first place in the 5A division with Collinsville second and McAlester third. Carl Albert was also named Grand Champion by the Oklahoma Band Masters Association for the second year in a row.

I am extremely proud of my granddaughter and all of the young band members who work so hard and do such a good job in band. Many “thanks” to you all.
