Duncan gets 1.21 inches of rain this morning

Hail but no damage reported

DUNCAN —   High winds, hail and rain lashed Stephens County and the parts of Oklahoma early Friday.

   The National Weather Service reported 1.21 inch of rain was recorded at Duncan Airport. The Oklahoma Mesonet site near Velma reported 0.96 of preciptation.

   There is a 30 to 40 percent chance of more thunderstorms today and tonight, forecasts say.

    No serious damage was reported in Stephens County. The sheriff’s department said a few trees were reported down across county roads.

    Duncan police said no damage was reported but there was temporary street flooding in parts of the city.

    In Pontotoc County near Ada a home was damaged, a shed was destroyed and number 12- to 14-inch trees were snapped off when a line of thunderstorms swept across southern Oklahoma, the weather service said.

    One-inch hail was reported in Lawton and near Gene Autry.  The weather service said there 62 mph wind gusts near Rush Springs and 72 mph wind gusts near Apache.

     In Woods County in northern Oklahoma, a BNSF train derailed with multiple cars coming off the tracks, the weather service said.

     In Oklahoma City, heavy rain early Friday morning caused the roof of an apartment building in Oklahoma City to collapse while strong winds knocked down power lines in nearby Del City.

    KOKH-TV reports that 12 people were evacuated following the collapse. No injuries were  reported.
