Hearing postponed for man charged with first-degree murder

ENID, Okla. — A preliminary hearing for a 21-year-old former Enid man charged with first-degree murder has been postponed until February.

Ronnnie Eugene Fuston was set for hearing Wednesday morning, a date set following an Oct. 22 bail hearing. The request was made by Fuston’s court-appointed attorney Gary Henry and there was no objection from the state. Fuston was charged March 1 in connection with the murder of Heath Crites last December.

Fuston was in custody in Oklahoma County on another first-degree murder charge when the charge was filed in Garfield County.

The charge came after more than two months of investigation by Enid Police Department detectives.

Oklahoma City detectives learned a gun used in an October murder there may have been hidden in Enid. The agencies compared shell casing from both murders and found the same gun had fired the rounds.

EPD detectives learned Fuston had called a friend in Enid to dispose of the gun, which was tracked to a man who bought the gun. Ballistic testing found the same gun was used in Crites’ murder.

Ivan Williamson told police Fuston said he was responsible for the Dec. 22, 2013, murder. Fuston also told Williamson it was a case of mistaken identity, according to court documents.

A second man was charged this month in connection with Crites’ murder. Anthony Brown Jr. was charged Dec. 5 with first-degree murder.

The charges came after Enid Police Department received information from a confidential informant who said Brown admitted to shooting Crites. The informant gave details to police about the case that have not been made public.
