Jury considers verdict in ex-Okla. lawmaker trial

OKLAHOMA CITY — A 12-member jury is now deliberating in the trial of a former Oklahoma lawmaker accused of bribery.

Deliberations began Tuesday in the trial of former Republican Rep. Randy Terrill. Prosecutors allege Terrill offered to set up former Democratic state Sen. Debbe Leftwich with an $80,000-a-year job at the medical examiner’s office if she would agree to not seek re-election in 2010 so that a Republican, current Rep. Mike Christian of Oklahoma City, could run for her open seat.

Terrill has pleaded not guilty. In his closing arguments, defense attorney Chris Eulberg said Oklahoma County prosecutors had not proven that Terrill had committed a crime and that evidence in the case was merely an illusions.

But Assistant District Attorney Jimmy Harmon says Terrill’s actions affected the integrity of state government.
