Hometown festival is May 17 at Heritage Center

ENID, Okla. — Tickets are on sale for Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center’s 1890s-style hometown festival to be May 17 at Humphrey Heritage Village.

Tickets are $5 per person for all the festivities, or $15 including the box dinner. The fun starts at 5 p.m. with carnival games, a cake walk and the sounds of the Enid Brass Town Band. Turkey Creek School will host a fried chicken box supper for the family to enjoy while watching Wild West tricks of skill, and the friendly competition of popular pioneer day relay races.

At 7 p.m., the Prairie County Avengers will perform with fiddles and banjos, and people can dance to the Virginia reel, patty-cake polka and sweetheart waltz. All ages are invited to participate in the dance. Instruction will be provided.

The Heritage Center’s Frontier Festival is sponsored by a Union Pacific community grant. The grants are available in communities served by the railroad company to enhance the quality of life.

“We are grateful to Union Pacific for providing this opportunity for families to experience the joys and importance of community from past to present,” said director Andi Holland. “You just can’t beat an evening in Humphrey Heritage Village filled with games, dancing and fried chicken.”

Tickets for the Frontier Festival are available at Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, 507 S. 4th. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Advanced purchase of tickets is encouraged, but tickets will be available at the door the evening of the event.

For information on the Frontier Festival or other CSRHC programs, call Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center at (580) 237-1907 or go online to www.csrhc.org.
