Enid September overnight stop for ‘Fireball Run’

ENID, Okla. — “Fireball Run”, a reality-filmed series with 40 driving teams making their way across the United States, will stop overnight in Enid later this year.

The news was announced this week, although local officials have been meeting with “Fireball Run” organizers for several months.

Mayor Bill Shewey will hold a press conference Tuesday to announce the city’s official team that will enter the race. “Fireball Run” also aids in the effort to find missing children. Shewey will announce the child being sponsored by the city.

The press conference begins at 11 a.m. at the courthouse Square gazebo. Producers and film crews for the show will be in town filming selected sites for inclusion into the show.

Enid is one of six cities the competitors of “Fireball Run” will stop at. The run is described as a “gripping” eight-day, 2,000-mile trivia game.

It’s a live event, but the race and stopovers will be streamed and turned into episodes.

As they move down the road toward the finish in Independence, Mo., the driving teams solve clues and accomplish tasks based on points of interest in each town, along with its history and culture.

Winners get the “glory, bragging rights and a plastic road sign,” said “Fireball Run” spokesman David Hickman.

The producers of the run became aware of Enid after being contacted by Visit Enid Director Marcy Jarrett.

“Fireball Run” starts in Frisco, Texas, on Sept. 27. The cars, many of them classic and modified, will arrive in Enid on Sept. 30.
