A-26 Lady Liberty Sponsor Group slates motorcycle, aviation poker run Monday

ENID, Okla. — Enid’s Commemorative Air Force A-26 Lady Liberty Sponsor Group is planning a motorcycle and aviation poker run and a David Chamberlain concert Monday.

The poker run will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. following the Woodring Wall of Honor dedication ceremony to mark the permanent installation of the Vietnam Memorial Wall at Enid Woodring Regional Airport. The concert will follow.

The poker run will start at Woodring and travel to the airports at Cherokee, Fairview and Kingfisher before finishing at the A-26 Hangar at Woodring. A ride in the A-26 fast-attack bomber will be awarded for the high poker hand and the low poker hand for both motorcyclists and aviators. Entry for the run is $25 and can be made online at www.a26ladyliberty.com or in person the day of the run.

The A-26 is the only American bomber to see action in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

Lady Liberty will be on display behind the Vietnam Memorial Wall during the dedication ceremony. Several airplanes representing others flown during the conflict in Southeast Asia, including the L-19 Bird Dog and the O-2 Skymaster, also will be on display.

Following the poker run, a benefit concert by Chamberlain will be held at the A-26 Hangar. The stage will be set with the A-26 as a backdrop for Chamberlain to perform many of his patriotic songs, in addition to his country rock music.

El Reno native Chamberlain’s latest album “Freedom Don’t Come Free,” is a heart-felt expression of a lesson Chamberlain learned the hard way.

“Our guys are going over there defending our country and not coming back in the same condition they left in,” he said. “It may be a wound or scar that you can see, or a wound or scar that you can’t see, but it’s something they’ll carry around with them for the rest of their lives.

“They do that for us in the name of freedom,” Chamberlain said.

Chamberlain himself is a veteran of Desert Storm.

Entrance to the concert is by donation, and all funds will be used for the maintenance and operation of the A-26 Lady Liberty.
