Ex-Moore resident faces disaster benefits charge

OKLAHOMA CITY — A federal grand jury has indicted a former Moore resident with disaster benefits fraud for allegedly making a false claim for benefits following the May 20 tornado in Moore.

U.S. Attorney Sanford Coats of Oklahoma City says 42-year-old Ira Robert Schilling was indicted Tuesday. Federal court records did not indicate whether Schilling is represented by an attorney.

The indictment alleges Schilling signed a Department of Air Force memorandum requesting evacuation allowances and benefits on behalf of his dependents. It alleges Schilling submitted a false travel voucher to the Air Force for costs of relocating to Norman after the May 20 storm when he knew that no such costs had been incurred.

If convicted, Schilling faces up to 30 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and payment of restitution.
