Queen invites Southmoore High School Band to perform in London parade

NORMAN — The Southmoore High School Band has been invited to join more than 10,000 performers marching in the 28th New Year’s Day Parade in London.

According to a press release issued by Southmoore Band Director Adam Mewhorter, Her Majesty the Queen of England has invited the Southmoore High School Band to march in London’s New Year’s Day Parade & Festival.

The Queen’s representative, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Greater London the Honorable Roger Bramble, will make a special trip from England to the Southmoore campus to officially present the invitation.

The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 23 in the Southmoore High School Auditorium. The event will last about an hour and include a short performance by the Southmoore Band and remarks from special guests, Mewhorter said.

According to visitlondon.com, the annual New Year’s Day Parade is the capital’s crowning event with parade performers representing “the London boroughs and countries from across the globe.”
