Multi-county meth, heroin trafficking ring busted

ENID, Okla. — A suspected multi-county methamphetamine and heroin trafficking ring operating mostly in the Enid area suffered a heavy blow Thursday morning following 38 arrests and the service of two no-knock search warrants.

The majority of arrests made in Operation Midnight Run occurred in Enid, but others were made in Major County and Oklahoma City in connection with the early morning drug sweep.

“In August 2013, OBN and the Enid Police Department began investigating a large drug trafficking ring Enid,” OBN spokesman Mark Woodward said. “This group of defendants would import significant quantities of crystal methamphetamine — or ice — heroin, marijuana and prescription drugs into the Enid area to supply local dealers and users.”

Woodward said the organization would traffic as much as 2 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and several ounces of heroin into Enid weekly.

EPD Chief Brian O’Rourke said Thursday’s arrest would have an impact in Enid.

“This organization that was taken down today, they had a great impact on the drug trade in Enid,” he said, “and we made an impact today.”

He said the department’s Narcotics Unit developed information on the drug trafficking organization in Enid and identified Steven Spray as the primary supplier of methamphetamine and heroin in Enid.

“They developed this information further and identified the organization within Enid and obtained evidence of their activities, which showed a large conspiracy to distribute those drugs,” O’Rourke said.

Evidence of other crimes also was found during the sweep.

“We’re working on some evidence of stolen copper and also recovered a stolen vehicle,” the chief said. “Drug crime is a root crime. It causes thefts, larcenies and any kind of money generating crime to support habits or supplies of various drugs.”

O’Rourke said narcotics detectives and all of the department’s officers are “going to aggressively go after narcotics offenders.”

“Our guys did a great job,” he said. “You can’t beat taking an entire organization down.”

OBN Director Darrell Weaver said it was vital to remove these “criminal drug elements”  from the streets. He said the efforts Thursday helped stop a “smorgasbord” of crime.

“This warrant sweep is dismantling a significant methamphetamine ring that trafficked substantial amounts of crystal meth into northwest Oklahoma, primarily the Enid area,” he said. “This horrible substance ruins lives daily in Oklahoma and is no respecter of persons. It affects young and the old, and we must keep vigilant in our pursuit of the individuals who are bent on supplying meth to our citizens and making profit on their pain.

“We can only win these battles through cooperative efforts, and I applaud the Enid Police Department, which partnered with OBN from the beginning on this tedious investigation.”

There were 34 arrest warrants related to Operation Midnight Run, with three out of Oklahoma City and two out of Major County. Twenty-eight of the 34 were taken into custody Thursday. An additional nine people were arrested in the sweep.

OBN agents worked with Oklahoma City Police Department to serve the warrants in Oklahoma County. Agents also worked with Major County Sheriff’s Office to serve warrants there.

OBN, Enid Police Department, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Highway Patrol served warrants in Enid.

“What we’ve done today is made an impact, not only in the drug trafficking community, but the overall crime element,” Garfield County Sheriff Jerry Niles said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.

The 28 taken into custody Thursday morning on Operation Midnight Run warrants were Scott Barnett, 39; Jeremy Beasley, 37; David Beebe, 52; Anthony Bruno; Ronald Campbell, 45; Rick Chambers, 53; Amy Doss, 36; Sarah Ellis, 21; Rocky Eslinger, 62; Charles Everett, 38; Raymond Fausett, 54; Baylee Goodrich, 18; Kelly Harding, 42; Brandon Jenkins, 28; Andrea Johnson, 25; Thomas Lee, 37; Justin Patterson, 29; Ryan Patterson, 32; Jose “Pepe” Botello-Huerta, 37; Jack Roland, 59; Steven Spray, 36; Herman Stark, 46; Lyndsey Strickland, 34; Maurine Thompson, 32; Jerrica Tice, 29; Amanda Watkins, 31; Rhonda Wimmer, 35; Kyla Young, 30.
