Man critically injured in icy Ada crash

Ada — Dozens of wrecks occurred overnight and Monday as moisture and below-freezing temperatures combined to make roadways slick and hazardous.

A McLoud man was critically injured in a one-vehicle rollover wreck about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Alan Fortner.

Fortner said 38-year-old Randy Carr was driving west on the J.A. Richardson Loop when, as he was driving on an overpass near Latta, hit ice on the road and slid, causing the vehicle to roll over.

Carr was taken by Mercy EMS to Mercy Hospital Ada, then taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City and admitted with a head injury.

A Coalgate woman was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash in Atoka County. The wreck occurred on U.S. 75 just west of Atoka at 7:10 a.m., according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Jeff Sewell.

Sewell said 32-year-old Svetlana Servais of Coalgate was driving a 2007 Chrysler west when she lost control on ice and traveled left of center. Servais crashed into the driver’s-side door of a 2010 Buick SUV driven by 38-year-old Tracy Lynn Jones of Lane, Sewell wrote in a report.

Servais was taken to Atoka Memorial Hospital and admitted in critical condition with head, trunk internal and arm injuries. Jones was also taken to Atoka Memorial Hospital and admitted in good condition with head and trunk external injuries. Sewell wrote Servais was driving too fast for icy conditions.

Ada police responded to 15 wrecks between midnight and 12 p.m. Monday, according to Captain Jason Potter. Potter said the figure did not include the amount of motorists who slid off roadaways, but did not cause property damage and were able to get their vehicles out on their own.

“The tow truck drivers were very busy this morning,” Potter said Monday.

Ada police, firefighters and Mercy EMS responded to a three-vehicle wreck in the 800 block of N. Country Club Monday just after 10 a.m. Monday. One woman was injured when, as a retrained passenger in the backseat of a pickup which was rear-ended by another vehicle, her head went through the back window of the pickup during the impact, according to radio traffic. She was taken to Mercy Hospital Ada complaining of head, neck and lower back pain.

Mercy EMS responded to nine wrecks in Pontotoc County from midnight to 12 p.m. Monday, according to officials. AAA Oklahoma said all roadways in Pontotoc County were affected by ice.
