Firsthand careers: Autry Tech open house is Sunday

ENID, Okla. — Autry Technology Center will hold an open house for parents, prospective students and interested members of the public to see firsthand how diverse career and technology education can be.

Autry will throw open the doors 2-4 p.m. Sunday and showcase its career training programs.

Activities will include tours of the newest house being built by the construction class, firefighter and emergency medical service safety challenges, iPad tips and tricks, resumé and interview tips, observing computer-aided drafting and animation demonstrations and participating in mock surgeries. Free health screenings will be given by medical students, and cosmetology students will give free hand and arm massages.

Autry’s financial aid office will hold a free come-and-go FAFSA workshop during open house.

“We recently had sophomores from area partner schools on campus to explore how they can take their education to the next level,” said Mandy Mayberry, marketing director. “Each sophomore had the opportunity to spend time in four programs visiting with our instructors and current students. The open house is a chance for them to come back, spend more time in the programs they found interesting and find out more about how career training can benefit them.”

High school students spend a half day at their home school and a half day at Autry taking theory and hands-on courses. Autry is tuition-free for district high school students and includes free transportation from their home high schools. They receive credits for high school courses in algebra II, geometry, mathematics of finance, anatomy, physiology, calculus and physics.

Adult students have the option to attend half a day or all day.
