NOC to share new residential housing project proposals

ENID, Okla. — A community information meeting has been slated for Enid residents to learn more about Northern Oklahoma College’s plans for a new residential housing project.

The meeting will be noon Feb. 13 in Room 102 of Gantz Student Center.

“Community members are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting to learn about and comment on the project plans,” said Bill Johnson, director of public information for NOC.

The meeting will be an opportunity for community members to get more details about the project and share comments with key players in the planning process.

The design process is under way, and architects will engage students and employees to determine the best layout and plans for the dorms.

The most likely location for new dorms at NOC Enid is on Maine across from Briggs Auditorium. That was the recommendation of Cyntergy AEC, the Tulsa-based architecture, engineering and construction management firm hired by the NOC board of regents to do a housing feasibility study for both campuses.

Johnson said housing emerged as the No. 1 priority during NOC’s year-long strategic planning process. During a series of town hall meetings, stakeholders emphasized the need for new housing. Two of the six strategic priorities developed in those discussions were to enhance the quality of life for students and upgrade facilities to enhance the student experience.

Additionally, student residential housing is a top priority on the Enid campus master plan.

In November, NOC submitted a $10 million project proposal to the Oklahoma State Regents Real Property Master Lease Program for new student housing. The funding was approved in December.

Oklahoma City architectural firm Frankfurt-Short-Bruza Associates will design residence halls costing up to $5 million each for the Enid and Tonkawa campuses.

The new facilities are expected to be ready for students to move in for the fall 2015 semester.
